When John and Yoko went to live in New York in 1971, John met Bob Gruen, a well known rock photographer, who became his friend and neighbour. ABACUS (Exhibition)

Responding to the two histories of Bluecoat - school and gallery - this group exhibition at Bluecoat explores alternative twentieth century histories of creative education and their resonance today. Artists have been invited to upturn the conventions of the gallery with young visitors as their primary audience. Artists include Simon & Tom Bloor who, inspired by Kurt Rowland’s ‘Looking and seeing’ series, will turn the window gallery into a studio space while Liverpool based artist Emily Speed will make a number of playful architectural interventions. Taking place in over 20 venues across the city with over 100 shows, the festival will fill your yearly laughter quota for two weeks in September to October, turning the funniest city in the UK into the funniest city on the planet. TALES FROM THE CITY (Exhibition)

Tales from the city marks the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act with stories from Liverpool’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT+) community over the past five decades. The exhibition reflects how the lives and experiences of Liverpool’s LGBT+ community have changed from 1967 to 2017. Individual stories are told through a mixture of objects, costume, art, photography, film and oral history interviews.
